The arable land of the Canary Islands is the most expensive in Spain and the third most expensive in the EU

The price of a hectare for cultivation in the Canary Islands multiplies by 17 the average price in the territory of the European Union

In 2023, the Canary Islands was the third region of the European Union (EU) with the highest average price per hectare of arable land, with a cost of more than 148,000 euros, according to data published this Tuesday by the community statistics office Eurostat.

It was preceded by Vienna (Austria) with an average cost of 189,000 euros per hectare and Flevoland (Netherlands) with more than 178,000 euros.

In 2023, the Canary Islands was also the second region in the EU with the most expensive hectare of agricultural land rental, with 1,164 euros.

The first was the Dutch region of Flevoland, with a cost of €1,787 per hectare, and the third was Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands, with 1,111 euros.

Regarding the EU data, the average price of a cultivable hectare was more than 11,000 euros, while the annual rental price was 173 euros, according to Eurostat.

As for the EU countries, those with the highest prices were Malta, with 283,000, the Netherlands with 91,000 per hectare and Luxembourg in third place with 42,000 euros.

For its part, Spain recorded a cost of 12,000 euros per hectare and had an average rental price of 163 euros per hectare.

Regarding rent, the highest prices were recorded in the Netherlands at 914 euros per hectare and the lowest in Slovakia, with 67 euros.
