The Canary Insertion Benefit (PCI) reaches the highest coverage in its history, reaching a total of 11,427 beneficiary families in September, the maximum since the creation of this program in 2007.

As clarified by the Minister of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana, "the forecast is to achieve social coverage of 12,000 families before the end of the year or the beginning of next year." "This means - she clarified - that this year 2022, in which the PCI will disappear and be replaced by the Citizen's Income, will be the year with the highest coverage in the history of the PCI, taking into account that it coexists with the Minimum Basic Income that, according to Social Security data, is already received by some 23,000 families in the Canary Islands."

Santana stressed that when the current legislature began, there were 5,687 families benefiting from this financial aid. "Today we reach more than double thanks to the legislative changes promoted by the Ministry of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth, changes that have allowed, among other improvements, that former PCI beneficiaries could reapply for it, as well as the increase in funding and the hiring of technical personnel both in the department and in the municipalities dedicated to the management of this coverage."

In this sense, the regional head of Social Rights highlighted the efforts of the Canary Islands Executive to increase the economic items allocated to the PCI, from 36 million euros in 2019 to 66.5 million euros in 2022, an amount that, she announced, will reach around 70 million euros in execution by the end of the year.

In addition, she recalled that when the Citizen's Income is approved, as stated in the bill, PCI beneficiary families would enter automatically, "that is, directly to the citizen's income without submitting a single paper, which will mean an improvement in the amounts that families will receive in payroll, the elimination of renewals, as well as the reinforcement of professional support for inclusion plans."
