In a few months, citizens will be able to have 58 public electric bicycles in Arrecife in nine stations throughout the city, according to the Mobility Councilor, Mario González, in an interview with Ekonomus.

“My intention is that the public bicycles of Arrecife are installed before the summer. The bicycles are manufactured, but there are some reports from Coasts and Heritage for some stations", shares González.

The contract signed with the awarded company La Factoría Bike-in, includes, in addition to the 58 bicycles for the city, with a cost of 179,800 euros, another three bicycles for the local police of Arrecife, valued at 9,300 euros, and nine parking stations with a budget of 108,000 euros.

The bikes, which will have a range of up to 80 kilometers, will be blue and white, with the same tones as the public buses and the entire municipal mobility area.

They will also “include the city's skyline in screen printing”, confirms the councilor, who plans to invite citizens shortly to choose a name for the bicycle service through a public survey.

The plan is to include nine public electric bicycle stations in the locations listed below. The exact location may vary depending on the latest reports to arrive.

There will be a station “in El Cable to also serve La Concha; another between the Cabildo and the Guaguas Interchange, for those who have to do paperwork or come to work”, and a third “in the surroundings of Parque Islas Canarias and Playa del Reducto, with a more tourist function”, explains González.

The mobility councilor also plans to install a public bicycle station in the vicinity of Calle Real and the Puente de las Bolas, to “be able to move around the Charco de San Ginés and towards the Open Mall”.

In addition, you can take a bicycle in the vicinity of the Fishing School and the Monument to the Martyrs of the Sea. Thus, “the students of the School, who mostly do not have a car, will be able to move around the city by bicycle”. It is also planned that this station will serve “the people who arrive on a cruise and have decided to come walking towards the surroundings of the Castle of San José”.

A sixth station will be located “near the sports area of Arrecife and the commercial area of the Open Mall” and a seventh to serve the Island Library, Sports City, the Salinero Theater, "which have high demand".

There will also be a station in the Argana neighborhood. “It remains to be seen exactly at what height, whether on Tenderete street or rather towards the Molina Orosa Hospital. We are evaluating which is the area with the highest influx”.

Finally, a ninth station will serve Titerroy and San Francisco Javier “in the surroundings of the Las Maretas and Zonzamas school areas”.
