Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària have increased their activity on the route between the Canary Islands and Huelva with a fourth weekly connection in both directions between July 1 and September 30. During these months, the shipping companies offer twice as many connections as last year, with an additional departure to the three they usually make, to meet the high demand expected for this summer period, both for passengers and for the transport of rolling goods between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula.

The route is operated by the ferry Sicilia, which has a capacity for 1,000 passengers and 400 vehicles, and the ferry Marie Curie, which can accommodate more than 800 passengers and 600 vehicles. Thus, from July 1, there are departures from Huelva on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, all of them bound for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the exception of the Wednesday trip, which only has a connection with Tenerife. For their part, departures from the islands take place on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, with the latter day having two trips from Tenerife.

The fleet director of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, points out that "this fourth extra trip a week not only allows us to meet the high demand of the summer period, but also gives us the possibility to adapt even more to the needs of all passengers who have given such a good reception to our connection with the Peninsula".

For his part, the general manager of Baleària, Georges Bassoul, highlights that "the fourth service responds to the commitment to connectivity and flexibility, to reinforce the line and guarantee the offer and comfort of passengers on these dates of high demand".

The president of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, Pedro Suárez, has shown his "total support for this initiative of Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària to increase their weekly services during the summer, an extension that, in addition to responding to the traditional increase in demand, allows us to strengthen the vital connection between the Canary Islands and the Peninsula, giving special value to the connection with Huelva, a port with which we have historically maintained important commercial relations".

The president of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, thanks Baleària and Fred. Olsen Express for their commitment to the port of Huelva and assures that "this new service allows the port to be positioned as a strategic intermodal platform in the connections between the Peninsula and the Canary Islands, in addition to highlighting the infrastructures of the South Pier, to which is added the promotion of the Ruta1400 Huelva-Canarias brand".

Five years of alliance to connect the Peninsula and the Canary Islands from Huelva

The service between the Peninsula and the Canary Islands, operated by Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària for more than five years, shows this strategic alliance for the union by sea between the islands and the Peninsula. Since its inception, the connection has transported more than one million linear meters of cargo and more than 155,000 passengers between Huelva and the Canary Islands, consolidating a key route for the transport of goods. Among the services of the two ships that cover this route, the cabins, the restoration, and the services for pets stand out.
