Total foreign investment in the Canary Islands in the first half of 2022 reached 216 million euros, "one of the best historical records" and 157% higher than the 87 million reached in 2021, although at that time it was still emerging from the health crisis.

The Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez, who offered these data in a parliamentary committee, also reported that total foreign investment, including that from the peninsula, exceeds 306 million euros, the second best record of the last decade.

With these data, the Canary Islands has gone from being in thirteenth place among the autonomous communities in foreign investment to ninth.

By countries, the largest amount of foreign investment in the first half of 2022 came from Germany, with 57 million euros, which adds to the interest of the public foreign promotion company, Proexca, to open an office in Berlin before the end of the legislature.

Behind Germany were the United States, with 56 million euros, Ireland with 35 million and the Netherlands with 31 million.

By sectors, the largest funds went to rental, maritime transport and passengers, consulting and film production.

These data are not "the result of improvisation", but of the "strategic planning" to attract investment and new sectors developed by Proexca, which also acts as "accompaniment" to investments, said Elena Máñez.

The minister also pointed out that foreign companies invest in the Canary Islands because they find opportunities and security.
