The Canary Islands has been crowned as the second autonomous community where store visits have increased the most in these first days of sales, 55% more than in the 2021 summer sales campaign, according to the annual sales report of the Tiendeo platform.
And, although the offers officially kick off on July 1, this year they have been brought forward a week in some stores. With the long-awaited return to normality, without restrictions, the Canarians have rushed to buy en masse, despite the constant threat of inflation, which already exceeds 10% nationwide.
Perhaps this has been one of the most important reasons to go in search of the most pronounced discounts, making price an essential indicator among Canarians. "Although we are far from the pre-pandemic data, the trend for this summer is positive and we can see a certain recovery compared to 2021," say the experts at Tiendeo.
To reactivate consumption in this sales campaign, brands and retailers have activated more discounts on their products. According to Tiendeo data, the number of items on promotion has increased by 11.7% compared to the previous year and there are more items per catalog (+18%).
In any case, it is important to mention that this increase in store visits is not an isolated case in the archipelago, but is replicated throughout Spain, increasing in 15 of the 17 autonomous communities by an average of 30%, with the exception of the Balearic Islands (-9%) and Extremadura (-24%).
The day with the most visits was Thursday, June 30, while last year Saturday, July 3 was the day with the most visitors. Specifically, the Autonomous Community of Navarra has been the community where store visits have increased the most, by 60%, followed by the Canary Islands (+55%), Catalonia (+50%), the Basque Country (+44%), Castilla la Mancha (+36%), the Valencian Community (+35%), Castilla y León (+30%), La Rioja (+29%), the Principality of Asturias (+29%), Andalusia (+26%), Madrid (+14%), Murcia (+12%), Galicia (+10%), Aragon (+9%) and Cantabria (+3%).
However, this year the campaign could also be threatened by the lack of stock that businesses are experiencing, according to the Spanish Confederation of Commerce (CEC) this Friday.
