The assembly of workers of Canal Gestión Lanzarote, in charge of the integral water cycle on the island, has unanimously approved to start an indefinite strike starting on July 31. The Works Council presented the strike notice to the labor authority on Tuesday and the assembly has ratified this decision this Wednesday, endorsed by UGT, CCOO, CGT and Intersindical Canaria.

As they explain in a statement, the reason for adopting this measure is the "repeated breaches of the agreements, regulatory framework and state agreement for the collection and distribution of water" by which they are governed. In addition, it also denounces the company's intention to "dismiss 69 workers with contracts in violation of the law".

The Works Council maintains that these dismissals would entail "the dismantling of the company's organizational structure in the different services and the growing outsourcing of work and functions reserved for the workers of Canal Gestión Lanzarote, putting at risk the sustainability of employment and public service to citizens".
