The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, announced on the morning of this Friday, February 7, that the council has reached an agreement to buy Casa Orsola. This house had become "the symbol of the fight against real estate speculation" in the city, in the words of the mayor himself.
Last week, neighbors and activists gathered in front of the property, two blocks of buildings in the capital where 18 neighbors live, to prevent the eviction of one of them, so the launch was postponed until February 18.
Following a corporate social agreement between the Barcelona City Council, the non-profit social entity Tercer Sector Hábitat 3 and the property owner, Collboni has announced that the evictions from the building "will be canceled."
According to the mayor, the property has agreed to sell the building for 9.2 million euros, which "is 30% less than the market value," according to the newspaper La Vanguardia. After its purchase, the non-profit entity will be in charge of managing them.
