Arrecife's Urban Buses transport 200,000 more people per year since the introduction of free public transport two years ago.
If in 2022 there were 358,751 travelers, at the close of 2024 there had been counted 560,352 passengers, according to the data provided by the Department of Transportation and Mobility.
With respect to the previous year, in which 521,000 people traveled, in 2024 there was an increase of more than 7%.
In December, the City Council of the island's capital added two new electric buses. The Councilor for Mobility and Transport, Mario González Altube reported that new bus units, already tendered, will be incorporated in 2025.
In addition to the free service, the councilor attributed the growth to the revitalization proposals and massive events in Arrecife, where the City Council has encouraged citizens to move by public transport.
The data provided by the Department of Mobility and Transport shows that during the past 2024 a total of 174,210 passengers were transported using the Resident Bonus, when the total number of users of the Arrecife buses amounted to 560,352.
