A group of entrepreneurs, merchants, industrialists and professionals has formed ASEMCOM, the Association of Entrepreneurs and Merchants of Playa Blanca. The association, chaired by businessman and professional José Luis Delgado Sánchez, was presented to society on Wednesday afternoon. The presentation was attended by the third vice president of the Cabildo and councilor for Industry and Commerce, Emilio Bermúdez; the mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, councilors from the southern town hall; and social and economic agents from Yaiza and the rest of the island.

During the presentation of ASEMCOM, its president highlighted that the aim is to promote Playa Blanca as an open-air shopping center, which provides "dynamism and modernity to daily life", recovering and creating spaces for social, commercial and cultural relations, promoting a new development of urban space.

The objective of ASEMCOM, which already has nearly 50 associated companies from all sectors of the economy, is to group, represent and support all companies and professionals in economic activity (commerce, leisure, restaurants, services, etc.) in Playa Blanca. This Association, with its registered office in Playa Blanca, is made up of entrepreneurs and associated companies belonging to the commerce, hospitality and services sectors, as a way of relating and interacting between the different media.

The board of directors of ASEMCON is made up, in addition to José Luis Delgado, by Klaus E. Dieter, vice president and representative of the real estate and tourism sector; Félix Andrés García, secretary, representative of the sports and leisure sector and promoter of Enduroman; Juan Cabrera Armas, treasurer and representative of the hotel sector; and the members Jesús María Martelo Ortiz de Zárate, representative of the real estate, construction and tourism sector; Óscar Pubill Gómez, representative of the accommodation and tourism sector and Jorge D. Sánchez.

An open shopping center

The mayor of Yaiza highlighted during her speech that this association will benefit Playa Blanca as a major center of economic activity and offered her institutional collaboration to relaunch the commercial, tourist, leisure and business activity of this town, where around 15,000 people reside and is considered one of the great tourist areas of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.

For his part, the councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Emilio Bermúdez, said that business associationism is important to achieve great objectives. He said that despite the current crisis situation "now is when we all have to row together, unite and work. Playa Blanca, Yaiza and Lanzarote have many opportunities for economic growth."

This Association will be present next week in Madrid at the Fitur tourism fair, for the commercial and tourist promotion of Playa Blanca. Among the short-term objectives, according to its president José Luis Delgado, is to achieve a training center for this town and to ensure that Playa Blanca, the entire Avenida Limones and surrounding streets, become an open shopping center.
