The month of June registered the entry of 76,142 tourists in Lanzarote. Their preferences are four and five star hotels, since 73.72% chose these categories of establishments. On the other side of the scale are the 20,004 people who opted for one, two or three star accommodation.
The data offered in the Survey of Tourist Accommodation in Hotel Establishments prepared by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac) shows that the average stay has increased by half a day if we compare the months of June of the current year and 2005. In this sense, if before they spent 7.61 days, now visitors extend their vacations to 8.11 days.
The number of overnight stays also grew in June 2006 compared to the same month last year. In this case, the 26,736 places in hotels and apartments on the island accommodated 617,446 overnight stays the previous month, of which 181,253 were in establishments of between one and three stars and 70.64% (436,193) were in four and five star accommodation.
AREAS
The degree of occupation on the island has some variations depending on each of the tourist areas. Thus, Playa Blanca has the highest concentrations with 75.02% followed by Puerto del Carmen with 74.84% and the furthest Costa Teguise with 66.22% occupancy.
The trend in hotel occupancy from January to last June is upward. Thus, although in Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca it does not fall below 70% and there are even crests of 80.8% as in the month of March in Puerto del Carmen.
