The story "Police and Champions", which tells the desire of the Tenerife Local Police basketball team to attend the Police and Firefighters Olympics to be held next summer in Washington (USA), has managed to be a finalist to win the Endesa BasketLover contest. The Tenerife local police compete with a story sent from Malaga and another from Madrid for a prize of 6,000 euros. The award will go to the project that gets the most votes until May 17.
Voting is open and can be done through the Facebook profile or Gmail account. To vote, just enter this link and then click on the Facebook button if you vote through a profile on that social network or on the Youtube button if you do it through Gmail. Because the voting is popular through social networks, "any initiative that helps to spread the challenge is good to capture votes", say the organizers of the contest.
In order to participate, the Tenerife local police team was sponsored by Iberostar Tenerife player Nico Richotti. He himself presents the two-minute video where the story is explained. In addition, Richotti wore the shirt that the local police gave him on his social media accounts.
In the video, Alexis Modino, one of the players of the Tenerife Police team, explains that they chose to play basketball because "it transmits the values of companionship, union, sacrifice and thinking collectively" that help them so much in their lives and apply "on the street and on the court". The Tenerife Police team has become European champion in 2008 and European runner-up in 2012. The dream, Modino concludes, is "to be a gold medalist in the Police and Firefighters Olympics held in the United States and, for that, we need the help of 6,000 euros".
Second edition of BasketLover
In 2014, Endesa, the main sponsor of the Endesa League, launched its BasketLover project for the second consecutive year. The first year was presented by actor Dani Martínez. In the second season, BasketLover has been proposed as a contest, with stories sent by the protagonists, who are vying for a prize of 6,000 euros. The initiative was presented by the model Ana Albadalejo, who traveled Spain in an electric car to publicize each of the selected stories.
Players such as Nico Richotti, from Iberostar Tenerife, Rudy Fernandez, from Real Madrid, Marcelinho Huertas, from FC Barcelona, Nacho Martín, from Movistar Estudiantes, Andy Panko, from Montakit Fuenlabrada, and Sergi Vidal, from FIATC Joventut, have joined this second edition of BasketLover, encouraging basketball lovers to participate in this initiative.
"Endesa, one more year, maintains its commitment to basketball and its values, reflected in the sponsorship that the company makes of the Endesa League and the Spanish basketball teams (male and female, in its various categories), as well as the World Cup, which in 2014 was held in Spain, and the Endesa Minicopa of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto, which this year was held in Gran Canaria", they emphasize.
