An entrepreneurial project in the El Almacén Creative Industries Hub

Since March, the El Almacén Creative Industries and Cultural Tourism Hub has become the headquarters of MJC Ambiental, a coworking space created by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Department of Culture, to support entrepreneurs with business projects in the cultural field.

Culture and leisure as pathways to environmental education

Marila and Juan Carlos met while doing internships at the Biosphere Reserve Office. "We complemented each other so well that when other projects came up, we started sharing them naturally," explains Marila.

Due to these entrepreneurs' commitment to Culture as a vehicle for environmental education, their project has been selected for the El Almacén Hub

In the words of the promoters of MJC Ambiental, "What we value most is the training, the visibility, and the infrastructure," emphasizes Juan Carlos. "People take you much more seriously when you have your own office or meeting room." "We are already doing coworking," adds Marila, "with other entrepreneurs from the Hub."

MJC Ambiental offers a different proposal that combines the youth factor with the training and passion of its promoters. "We offer both technical advice and municipal revitalization and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities," they explain. "For us, it's not just work, it's our philosophy of life."

These young entrepreneurs feel more comfortable organizing dynamic and group activities than giving 'dry' talks. Marila explains, "In the activities we organize, networks of people committed to sustainable development are created. The 'free' lunch of the volunteer programs had been focused as a reward for work. For us, it is an opportunity for participants to share ideas and create a bond that can become lasting."

"For a sustainable world, you have to understand that environment and society go hand in hand, and society is nothing more than inherited culture," explains Juan Carlos. "We are touching different areas such as poetry, storytelling, music, photography, or graffiti to reach a wider audience."

In addition to the execution of the projects it has underway, MJC Ambiental hopes that Corporate Social Responsibility activities will play a greater role in its line of work. "We hope that the companies of Lanzarote realize how these activities can serve their interests, for example, creating a better brand image for their customers or increasing the productivity of their employees," they conclude.

April 22nd is International Mother Earth Day, which this year has the theme of "climate and environmental literacy." For Marila Sosa Mederos and Juan Carlos Jiménez, promoters of MJC Ambiental, April 22nd is celebrated every day of the year.
