CICAR is present for another year at the Berlin Tourism Fair, ITB 2018, which will be extended until this Sunday, March 11. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Isaac Castellano, visited the stand of the leading car rental company in the Canary Islands, accompanied by some of his collaborators. The Minister was received by the commercial director of CICAR, Ramón Valiente, exchanging points of view on the good expectations of tourism in the Islands for this year.
Likewise, the CICAR staff welcomed a group of students from the University School of Tourism of Lanzarote, led by Professor Pedro Hernández. It has become a tradition that, within their program of educational activities, students from this center attend the major fairs to come into direct contact with the tourism industry. Along with the one organized by the city of London, the Berlin Tourism Fair is considered the most important in the world.
In the same way as other public and private tourism actors in the Archipelago, CICAR hopes that the present 2018 will be as benign as the previous year. In fact, the past was a good year for the car rental sector in Spain, registering a growth close to 10%. This is because the rent a car segment also grows hand in hand with tourism.
CICAR is a car rental company without a driver belonging to the Cabrera Medina Group. This business group, with a family structure, offers services in all the Canary Islands, and is present in all airports, ports, tourist areas and strategic points of the Canary Archipelago. Its logo is a creation of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique. It has more than 12,000 rental cars, more than 80 points of sale for both rent a car and vehicle sales, and provides direct work to almost 1,500 people.
Its car rental division is the most important in all of the Canary Islands, and it is also the only Lanzarote firm with a presence on all seven islands. These circumstances, together with the high quality of its service, have made it worthy of numerous awards, among which the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands stands out, obtained by the Cabrera Medina Group in 2014. This decoration is awarded by the autonomous government as recognition to individuals or legal entities that carry out their daily work or their existence for the benefit of Canarian society. Last year commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation.
