The Independent Union of the Tax Agency (SIAT) has denounced the director of this organization in Las Palmas for prevarication and omission of the duty to prosecute the crime, for having assigned office hours from Monday to Friday to the sailors of the Cóndor patrol boat while their ship remains under repair.

In its complaint, this union maintains that having withdrawn those crew members while the patrol boat based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is being repaired from their 24-hour work shift "has left the islands of the eastern province of the Canary Islands without coverage."

"It is incomprehensible that the maritime border of Gran Canaria is left unprotected at night, precisely the usual time for illicit activities such as drug trafficking and smuggling," argues SIAT President Manuel Porras in a statement.

The Directorate of the Customs Surveillance Service has denied in recent weeks that the work being done in the Canary Islands against drug trafficking has been affected, in which the Santa Cruz de Tenerife patrol boat, Sacre, continues to work, with the support of the special operations vessels Petrel and Fulmar.

And, furthermore, it considers that it is a labor conflict due to disagreement with the working conditions assigned on land to these sailors (shifts from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), not an organizational problem that affects the Customs service.

However, SIAT considers that the delegate of the Tax Agency in Las Palmas, María del Carmen Guillén, "has no operational justification" to support the decision she made and reproaches her for having made public statements that, in her opinion, could "dismantle" an ongoing operation against a narco-sailing vessel.

For this reason, it has filed a complaint with the Courts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria against Guillén for prevarication, abandonment of destination and omission of the duty to prosecute crimes and disobedience and denial of assistance.
