Torres: “The agreement between PSOE and CC will give stability to the country and is favorable for the reality of the Canary Islands. Yesterday was a good day”

The Secretary-General of the PSOE Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres, has celebrated that this “intense week” has culminated with the agreements for Pedro Sánchez to continue being president, even exceeding the 176 votes that are necessary for the majority: “Sánchez will be able to be invested in the first vote with 179 votes. It is one of the most supported investitures of the last 20 years in Spain, which reflects the essence of freedom and parliamentary democracy.”

In a press conference held this Saturday at the socialist headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Torres highlighted the support of all the progressive, leftist and nationalist parties and added that “the agreement between PSOE and CC will give stability to the country and is favorable for the reality of the Canary Islands.”

The Canarian socialist leader has reviewed the most important features of the negotiations with Coalición Canaria that were opened from the first moment after the elections of 23J and that have culminated with the materialization of a “very good agreement for the Canary Islands.” For Torres, what has happened in these last hours, with the PSOE bringing together a comfortable majority of the votes, “portrays those who are now isolated: the right and the far right.”

Torres has thanked Coalición Canaria for taking the step and has highlighted that “we have not only signed the Canarian agenda, as the PP did. What we have signed goes further because it is a legislature agreement.”

Regarding the criticisms of the PP in the Canary Islands, Torres has been clear because “whoever said that the signing of the Canarian agenda was bad news, perhaps meant that it is bad news for their political party” because the PSOE has signed the same agenda that CC closed with the PP, with vital issues for hydraulic, educational or transport infrastructures, but also a point has been included in which both formations agree to initiate a process that culminates in the regulatory modifications so that the powers in matters of unaccompanied minors are not exclusive to the communities to which they arrive.

Torres has assured that the PP has been losing support that Sánchez has been gaining on the other hand “and now they are calling for mobilization being aware of their failure. The real mobilization took place on 23J.”

Torres has lamented the vandalism suffered by the PSOE headquarters and has thanked the expressions of support from citizens and other political formations. “To those who have not done so, which has been VOX, I remind them that the only weapon to wield in democracy must be the word, never violence or the call to insubordination.”

The Secretary-General of the PSOE Canarias has strongly rejected words and expressions used by the right and the far right such as “tyranny”, “betrayal” “coup d'état”, because “it is an unacceptable language that is outside the constitutional scope”, he concluded.
