The PSOE believes it will win the elections in the Canary Islands and accuses PP and CC of being the "enemy" of the islands

The Canarian PSOE foresees that it will win the regional elections in 2027 in the islands again, as it did in 2023, for which it will demonstrate to its citizens that the "enemy" of this region "does not have to be sought outside", but in the reality that CC and PP promote from the current government.

This was stated this Saturday by the general secretary of the Canarian socialists, Ángel Víctor Torres, on the occasion of the first regional executive committee that the party organizes after its 15th congress, held in January, a meeting in which he laid the foundations for the work to be developed in the face of that electoral appointment, before which he considered "that the time has come to talk" about what the Government supported by CC and the PP has done in the last two years in the islands, "and less about Catalonia, Madrid or Pedro Sánchez".

Thus, Torres has reproached the Canarian president and vice president, Fernando Clavijo (CC) and Manuel Domínguez (PP), that the shopping basket has become more expensive in the islands in the last two years while the economies of the citizens have worsened; that public education from 0 to 3 years does not benefit 2,000 more children, as the PSOE foresaw.

Criticism for their support of private universities

He has also criticized the Canarian Government for "promoting" private universities and "cutting" resources to public ones, that the archipelago is once again "at the bottom" in terms of dependency after the "historical milestones" achieved in this area by the previous Executive, presided over by himself, and also supported by Podemos, NC and ASG, and that it has not delivered "any housing" in this time, except for those that were promoted and started in the previous term.

For all this, the PSOE believes that "it is time not to look outside for the enemies of this land and for the Canarian Government to assume its responsibility and answer to the Canarians for the management of its competence".

After alluding to the latest CIS survey, according to which, "after difficult months, the PSOE once again has the majority support of the citizens", and to another recent study that placed the Canarian as "the second worst regional government, after the Valencian", Torres considered that both make "an accurate reading" because CC and the PP "came promising that they were going to change things and what they have done is to put into practice the biggest electoral deception, by promising that they would lower the IGIC by two points and, two years later, they have not done so".

"They got votes through fraud and the Canarians have to be clear about it. In two years we are going to win the majority of the electoral appointments in the islands again, we want the Canarians to see the reality that is lived" in them, he asserted.

In addition to assuring that the Government of Spain "is going to present a preliminary draft budget" and that "it will be the most social that this country has ever had", Torres estimated that "those who vote against will have to justify why".

Regarding what the parties that make up the Government of the Canary Islands will do, he admitted that the PSOE expects that "the PP will vote against, as it has done in the last two years with respect to the interests of the islands, with the complicity of CC and Fernando Clavijo", to whom he stressed that "as he himself admits when he goes to Madrid, even if there have been extended general state budgets, the Canarian agenda is being fulfilled and will be fulfilled", also in reference to the financing of the trains, he added.

"What needs to be done with respect to the train is to move forward to have the environmental impact statements and sign an agreement so that, once the works can begin, it is multi-year" and has "participation of the different administrations. The Government is going to support it, has always supported it and has also defended it in Europe", he said about the railway projects planned in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

Democracy versus far-right pacts

Regarding the rise of the far right, the socialist leader stressed that "the containment dam" against it "is called democracy, Government of Spain and PSOE" and has reproached CC for being "an accomplice" of Vox "by saying one thing and the opposite", since it governs with that party in Granadilla de Abona and Arona (Tenerife) or Teguise (Lanzarote) so that the PSOE does not preside over those institutions".

"If you want to be coherent and you don't want the far right to grow, don't give it power, don't endorse governments where it is, make a sanitary cordon, you are being complicit in that rise", he said in relation to Clavijo.

For Torres, "what Clavijo has to do is not look up, towards Pedro Sánchez, with whom he always has an answer, but to the side, where he has Manuel Domínguez, with whom he has the negative vote".
