Koldo Case

The PP calls for Torres' resignation after the incriminating statement by Víctor de Aldama

In a statement, Qadri believes that these accusations by Aldama about several members of the PSOE, including the former president of the Canary Islands and current minister, open "a path that only has one way out, resignation."

The general coordinator of the PP of the Canary Islands, Jacob Qadri, has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres (PSOE), after the statements of the businessman Víctor de Aldama in court, who claims that Koldo García requested 50,000 euros for him.

In a statement, Qadri believes that these accusations by Aldama about several members of the PSOE, including the former president of the Canary Islands and current minister, open "a path that only has one way out, resignation."

"Torres has to resign, this is inadmissible. He cannot continue for a minute longer as minister," says Qadri, because the businessman's accusations, in prison for alleged links with the Koldo case plot, "are the most serious that have ever been made against a former president of the Canary Islands."

"In this influence peddling plot, we are taking another step in shame, with complaints that reveal bribes and commission collections. These are specific accusations against public officials of the Socialist Party, which directly affect former President Torres," according to the leader of the PP of the Canary Islands.

For Qadri, there is no doubt that this is "a corruption plot in capital letters" and, although he states that he respects the presumption of innocence, he believes that Torres "cannot continue for a minute longer in office with such a shadow of suspicion regarding him and his environment."

The coordinator of the PP of the Canary Islands maintains that "Torres has repeatedly lied, contradicts himself, maintains that he does not remember, but there are messages and evidence that place him as one of the key elements in the ramification of the plot in the Canary Islands" and he also bears "the accusation of Aldama and the shadow of suspicion of collecting illegal commissions."

Qadri criticizes that the PSOE has not announced that it will investigate responsibilities or that it will internally investigate the accusations against Torres and other socialist leaders, but will instead take legal action against Aldama.

The Popular Party demands that the facts be clarified and responsibilities be determined.

For Qadri, Aldama's accusations "reinforce the need for a change in the way of doing politics" because public officials cannot be allowed "to be involved in this type of situation."
