The National Police is disseminating messages to remind people of the prohibition of leaving their homes except for "justified reasons", such as going to the supermarket, the pharmacy or work, in the case of professions in which activity is being maintained and cannot be carried out remotely.
"The National Police is speaking to you. Citizens who are on public roads and spaces without justified cause are required to immediately go to their homes and remain there. We are facing a serious health emergency and we need everyone's collaboration. The National Police is watching over your health and safety. Thank you," they say in that message that has been translated into several languages.
The prohibition was approved this Saturday by decree, after the central government declared a state of alarm in the country to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The order also implies the closure of shops, with the exception of those that sell essential products. However, laundries, dry cleaners and hairdressers are also allowed to remain open.
In Lanzarote, agents have already had to intervene to warn citizens that they cannot remain on the street, although in the cases that have come to light, they were tourists.
