The Government will transfer this month to its state international protection network in the Canary Islands the first 250 unaccompanied migrant asylum seekers who are currently being cared for in resources of this autonomous community.

A decision that has been adopted in the Inter-Administrative Committee of the governments of Spain and the Canary Islands, established after the Supreme Court's order of March 25 that obliges the state reception system to attend to the minor asylum seekers, around a thousand, who are in the islands, in Ceuta and in Melilla.

This has been indicated to EFE by sources from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, who have pointed out that the Committee meeting has made progress in the upcoming reception in the old Canarias 50 barracks, a center dependent on the central administration where adult migrants are currently being received, of the first 250 minors.

Once the list of those first 250 minors who will be able to access has been agreed this Monday, the commitment of Migrations is to begin adapting the facilities, located in the La Isleta neighborhood of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while the Canary Islands Government will expedite the accreditation of the entity that will be in charge of the care of the young people, so that their transfer to the center can be carried out by the end of July, the sources added.
