The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Vice-Ministry of the Primary Sector, has approved the applications for recreational practice with a boat in inland waters of the marine reserve of fishing interest of the island of La Graciosa and the islets north of Lanzarote, so 35 boats are authorized to carry out the activity in 2023. The final list was published on Wednesday, December 7 in the Official Gazette of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (BOC).
The publication also contemplates the holding of a public draw, which will take place on December 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the offices of the General Directorate of Fisheries, with the aim of assigning the order of the corresponding authorizations, as the number of applications submitted does not exceed the planned quota.
Applicants have a period of 10 business days, starting this Thursday, December 8, to present the appropriate allegations.
The marine area that surrounds the islets and rocks located north of Lanzarote constitutes, due to its exceptional conditions, a habitat with an abundance of fishing resources as can be seen from the scientific studies carried out on marine reserves in waters of the Canary archipelago.
For this reason, the Autonomous Executive ensures the protection of the fishing wealth of the waters surrounding the islets, rocks and coastline of northern Lanzarote, a need highly demanded by professionals in the sector and, in this sense, has spoken in favor of the creation of a marine reserve the Fishermen's Association of the island of La Graciosa.
