The Canary Islands Government Council has authorized this Monday the agreement to improve the working conditions of the employees of the public company Gestión de Servicios para la Salud y Seguridad de Canarias S.A. (GSC), in charge of managing CECOES 1-1-2 and the Canary Emergency Service (SUC)

The approval of this document implies the ratification of the strike cancellation agreement that had been signed between GSC and the strike committees of both provinces on March 22, 2023, and represents the commitment of the regional Executive to consolidate the working conditions of the GSC company's workers, essential for the management and resolution of emergencies of all kinds and health emergencies in the Archipelago.

Content of the agreement

The agreement contemplates changes in on-call duties and extra activations, in order to guarantee weekly rest, which may only be suspended when circumstances of force majeure occur and after other options have been exhausted; as well as the right to digital disconnection of the worker while he/she should not be available.

It also includes a section aimed at promoting the training of all GSC personnel and a mechanism to reduce labor conflicts, a tool that, on the one hand, speeds up the resolution of pending files and, on the other hand, the establishment of work shifts to avoid possible future conflicts.

The company will continue with the employee selection processes already initiated and will publish others for operational positions, and will be responsible for keeping the different pools and reserve lists updated for the hiring of personnel in all professional categories.

According to this document, GSC will be responsible for developing a Psychosocial Risk Plan for its staff of professionals and for establishing actions to reduce and combat stress and anxiety within the operations room and air resources.

More human resources

The agreement also contemplates the incorporation of more human resources to the structure of GSC, as is the case of two women's care technicians (TAM); a resource manager in Tenerife, due to increased activity; and nursing staff of air resources in the night bonus.

The update of the replacement rate for the hiring of two workers as permanent employees is also included, one of whom will cover a position that has become vacant due to retirement.
