The Canary Islands adds a new positive case of monkeypox and studies a suspected case in Lanzarote

In total, and since the beginning of the alert, the Canary Islands has registered 17 positive cases and five under study, of which one is a probable case and four are suspected.

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands confirms since last Friday one positive case and notifies five under study for possible diagnosis of monkeypox. This means that there are a total of 17 confirmed cases in the Canary Islands since the beginning of the declaration of the health alert, 12 in Gran Canaria and five in Tenerife.

Of the five new cases under study notified, one has been classified as probable in Gran Canaria, and the other four as suspected, detected one in Gran Canaria, two in Fuerteventura and one in Lanzarote.

The Ministry of Health points out that all cases are having mild symptoms and, except for one suspected case that is in hospital for another pathology not related to monkeypox, the rest of the people are in home isolation and receiving follow-up from Primary Care.

Thus, the cases confirmed and notified in the Canary Islands since the beginning of the alert and until this Monday are as follows: 17 confirmed cases, 12 in Gran Canaria and five in Tenerife; one probable case pending confirmation, detected in Gran Canaria; and four suspected cases, pending confirmation, which have been detected one in Gran Canaria, two in Fuerteventura and one in Lanzarote.
