Representatives of parliaments from the EU and Africa will discuss immigration in Lanzarote

Representatives of parliaments from the south of the EU and North Africa will analyze the challenges of immigration in the Western Mediterranean and the Atlantic from a comprehensive approach, in a meeting to be held on January 27 in Lanzarote.

The President of Congress, Francina Armengol, and the Vice President of the Senate, Javier Maroto, will inaugurate this parliamentary conference held within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (APUM), the Cortes Generales reported this Tuesday in a statement.

At the meeting, a report will be presented by the presidents of the Assembly's committees on the specific challenges of immigration between the countries of origin, transit and destination most affected.

According to the note, the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami, the Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives of Egypt, Mohamed Abou El Enein, and the Vice President of the European Parliament, Younous Amorjee, will also speak at the opening session.

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, is scheduled to speak at the closing of the APUM meeting, initially called "Barcelona Process: Euro-Mediterranean Partnership".

It is an international organization that brings together 43 countries and integrates all the Member States of the European Union, the countries of North Africa, the Balkans and the Middle East.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (APUM) was created with the mission of assisting, promoting and contributing to the consolidation and development of the Barcelona Process, according to its institutional website.
