The images captured by scientists from the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) who are on the island of La Palma to follow the eruption that took place this afternoon in El Paso allow us to glimpse up to seven eruptive mouths.
According to Involcan, this is very common in fissural eruptions such as this one, that is, those that originate along a rupture of the earth's crust and that in some cases can measure several kilometers.
Likewise, the seismologists of the Volcanological Institute are already working to follow the eruption and have begun miniDOAS measurements in a terrestrial mobile position in order to determine the emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the eruption.
Classes suspended in El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte
The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands has suspended classes this Monday in the educational centers of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte as a result of the volcanic eruption unleashed this Sunday in the area of 'Cumbre Vieja'.
The measure, adopted by the educational department in coordination with the Cabildo de La Palma, will be applied initially during this Monday, although its continuity will be conditioned by the evolution of this situation.
