Canary Islands allocates 4.2 million euros for assistance to Canary Islanders residing in Venezuela through health benefits and food and medicine cards, as stated in the resolution published by the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands on July 18.

The Government of the Canary Islands, which has collaborated, after signing the corresponding agreement, with the General Canary Foundation of the University of La Laguna, will allocate 1.5 million euros for health benefits; 1.8 million euros for food cards and 858,000 euros for medicine cards, as detailed by the general director of emigration, José Téllez.

Regarding the recipients, for health coverage, 1,260 people have been able to benefit; for medicine cards, 3,533 beneficiaries; and for food cards, 5,791 people.

Health coverage is offered in Venezuela through the Spain Health Foundation “with which an agreement is maintained to carry it out through primary care, specialized care, oncological treatment and surgical interventions, as well as medications”, explained the general director.

On the other hand, the distribution of food and medicine cards is carried out with a specialized company through debit cards in which an amount is deposited monthly and bimonthly, respectively, during the period between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.

Finally, José Téllez has acknowledged that “this call would not have been possible without the collaboration of the Canary entities abroad that made their resources available to the Government of the Canary Islands to facilitate the collection of applications.”
