Lanzarote did not register any new coronavirus positives on Wednesday, so the number of confirmed cases remains at three, according to data released this Thursday by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The island has been without adding new cases for almost a week, since the last one was detected last Friday and officially communicated on Saturday. As for the other four cases that the Ministry had announced this Tuesday, they have finally been ruled out and the Ministry rectified the figure the following day, reducing it from seven to three.

As La Voz had already advanced on Tuesday, the error in the data provided by the health authorities came from the first test carried out on the island, which yielded "false positives". Later, when sending a second sample to Madrid to carry out the second test established by the protocol, these four cases were finally ruled out.

Lanzarote is the only island in which this situation has occurred, since in the rest the number of cases announced by the Ministry has remained or increased, which informs based on the results of the first test.

Almost 40 new cases in the Canary Islands

In total, as of Wednesday night there were already 220 accumulated cases of coronavirus COVID-19 in the Canary Islands, which represents an increase of 39 compared to the previous day (43 considering that in Lanzarote four were eliminated, which were therefore added in other islands). In addition, three deaths have already been recorded and nine patients have overcome the disease, so the number of active cases stands at 208. Of those patients, 82 have required hospitalization and 23 have needed admission to the ICU.

By islands, Tenerife has 143 accumulated cases; Gran Canaria 55; Fuerteventura 11, La Palma 5 and La Gomera and Lanzarote 3, while El Hierro continues without registering any, as does La Graciosa.
