Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, with 143.32 and 103.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week, respectively, are the two islands that currently exceed the indicator established by the Government of the Canary Islands for the suspension of events of more than 10 people during the next two weeks, according to the update of the regulations approved this Thursday in the extraordinary session of the Governing Council and which comes into force with the publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) this Saturday.
The new measure agreed upon establishes that in the islands that exceed 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the accumulated incidence of cases diagnosed in the last 7 days, mass events or acts will not be authorized, understanding as such those of more than 10 people.
Likewise, in hospitality, restaurant and terrace establishments, as well as in beach bars and restaurants, the closing time is brought forward to 00:00 hours at the latest, and no new customers may be admitted after 23:00 hours. The closure to the use of non-occupational day centers is also determined.
For monitoring the situation, information on the epidemiological indicators of each island will be updated weekly on the ‘Portal Covid’ website of the Canary Islands Health Service, in addition to possible specific updates that may be published depending on the data.
Limit social gatherings
The regulatory update agreed this Thursday by the Canary Islands Government Council also includes other general measures, incorporating the recommendation to limit social gatherings to the scope of cohabitants, that each person define their stable cohabitation social group and that social gatherings be held, within this group, with a maximum of 10 people.
The mandatory use of masks in the entire workplace and at school is also explicitly incorporated.
