The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, has ordered the suspension of teaching activity and the closure of educational centers for 14 days, starting this Friday, March 13.
This was reported by the regional Executive, which adds that this is a measure that affects all educational levels, from Early Childhood Education to University, also covering extracurricular activities.
The regional Executive explains that this exceptional measure is taken to protect the most vulnerable groups, such as the sick and the elderly. "Schoolchildren are not a risk group, but they can act as transmitters of the virus," they point out.
The Government of the Canary Islands has indicated that, depending on the scenario that arises with respect to the evolution of the COVID-10 virus, new measures may be adopted in the coming days.
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will participate on Saturday in the videoconference meeting with all the regional presidents, convened by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. After that meeting, the head of the Canarian Executive will appear to report on the latest measures adopted.
