The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, presided over the presentation of the first twenty electric vehicles that CICAR is incorporating into its fleet of rental cars without a driver in the archipelago, in an event held this Wednesday at the Castillo de San José in Arrecife.
The event was attended by, among other authorities, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, parliamentarians, most of the mayors and a large representation of the business, cultural and sports world of the island.
After approaching some of the vehicles deployed on the esplanade of the castle, the president of the Government of the Canary Islands and the attendees accessed the interior of the fortress, where Ángel Víctor Torres, pointed out: "This is how the Canary Islands will change, with the cooperation between the public sector and private initiative on the path of sustainability", referring to the "commitment to sustainable development that CICAR makes through the electric vehicle".
The president of the Canarian executive praised Lanzarote's commitment "to sustainability and the vehicle of the future", and stressed the need for changes in the habits of the population in the field of energy consumption, for which they will have the help of bonuses and incentives from the public administration. He also announced that the entire Canarian public sector should incorporate vehicles of this type into their fleets and that an effort must be made to quickly implement charging points throughout the Canarian geography.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, pointed out that CICAR "takes a very important step that allows the introduction of zero-emission vehicles in a sector such as vehicle rental". The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote focused on the origins of the group, "a company that the people of Lanzarote feel as very much our own since, in the mid-sixties, Don Mamerto Cabrera launched a small company, with just five vehicles and a great dose of enthusiasm and commitment".
Corujo recalled that this act "reminds us that we share a common history since Don Mamerto bought his first five cars and the Cabildo of Pepín Ramírez let himself be carried away by César's vision, making Lanzarote what it is today: the dream of a visionary but a dream that has allowed new opportunities for development and well-being to arise for his land and its people".
In his brief intervention, Mamerto Cabrera, CEO of CICAR, belonging to the Lanzarote business group Cabrera Medina, thanked the President of the Government of the Canary Islands and the other authorities for their presence at the event, and announced that new electric vehicles will be gradually incorporated into the fleet in the coming months, thus contributing to the reduction of polluting emissions into the atmosphere and the fight against climate change.
