A new confirmed case of monkeypox in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has counted one new case of monkeypox since Friday. Therefore, since the beginning of the declaration of the health alert, there have been 170 confirmed cases, of which 98 were detected in Gran Canaria, 65 in Tenerife, four in Fuerteventura, two in Lanzarote and one in La Palma.

All active cases are experiencing mild symptoms and remain in home isolation receiving follow-up from Primary Care. In addition, there is one probable case and one suspected case reported in Tenerife.

The protocol of the Ministry of Health classifies cases between probable and suspected depending on whether the patient meets clinical criteria and epidemiological criteria (probable cases) or if he only presents clinical criteria, in which case it is considered a suspected case.
