The infant and primary education school 'Liria' in Tinajo has officially been renamed 'La Vegueta'. The Ministry of Education has authorized the change of name approved unanimously by the School Board on June 30, 2016, as published this Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).

As the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, explained to La Voz, the decision to change the name of the school came from the educational community itself and is because the center has always been popularly known as 'La Vegueta', in reference to the town in which it is located.

The parents themselves transferred this request to the City Council, which in turn was sent to Education and which from now on has the approval. Machín has pointed out that the school, which officially bears the name 'La Vegueta', is one of the oldest in the municipality
