A citizen criticizes the lack of "medical attention" in the Canary Health Service in the smaller islands. "There are deficiencies in the health service of Lanzarote", she has stressed to La Voz. The waiting lists for care in some of the specialties is an issue that generates much concern among the population. In Neurology, "there is a long waiting list at the Molina Orosa Hospital", she added.
Since last June, the family has been "waiting" to access an appointment with the neurologist. A serious situation due to the problem suffered by her father: "He has a notable memory loss", she assured. For the 74-year-old patient, the wait can be fatal and play against him. It must be taken into account that, "time in this field is a fundamental factor", since it can "trigger a diagnosis that has no solution", his relative stressed.
The relatives have filed "two complaints" in Patient Care, and the only response they have obtained has been that "the specialty is saturated", but "without specifying the period of time that the patient will have to wait", she added. They make the "Canary Health Service primarily responsible", who do not look at the desperation of the "patients who desperately need more attention" for this type of disease.
"By the time they want to attend to our relative, it will be too late", the woman lamented. A lack of solution that will trigger that for the Health Service it will be "one less patient on their lists", she points out.
The woman addresses the newspaper to urgently demand "more attention and that they review those waiting lists with a magnifying glass", she claimed. It is necessary in her opinion, that "the number of doctors, more technology and more quality in care increase". In addition, they must analyze "the priorities, urgencies and cases" of each patient, she highlights.
She also demands responsibility from political representatives. "They must get more involved in improving the care of patients in Lanzarote, which is conspicuous by its absence", the woman says. Every day that passes, patients observe that "it goes from bad to worse". "We continue fighting for better health for our loved ones”.
