A former student of the CEIP Antonio Zerolo of Arrecife wanted to highlight the work that María de los Ángeles Barreto Concepción, who passed away Thursday in Arrecife at the age of 76, carried out as a teacher in this educational center. "Respect, personality or effort are part of the values that our Señorita engraved within me, and that I have never sufficiently thanked for," says this former student in a letter he sent to La Voz and that we reproduce in full.

"To most of you, the death of Doña María de los Ángeles Barreto Concepción, on the 8th, has gone absolutely unnoticed. One more obituary in the newspaper. However, when a surgeon, a writer or an architect dies, beautiful (and deserved) obituaries are usually read, where it is rarely possible to summarize their long professional and personal career, drawing that man or woman as a key figure in their social and personal environment. None of that could have been written without people like Srta. María de los Ángeles. She dedicated her life to teaching, to allowing people like the surgeon, the writer or the architect to have a solid foundation in their education, where spelling, reading comprehension, mathematics, history or geography are based.

I had the enormous honor of being her student at CEIP Antonio Zerolo during my first school years, and thanks to her, her dedication, her rectitude and her devotion to teaching, I am who I am. All my classmates, especially those born in 1976, those who still accompany me today, and with whom I am united by knots of friendship that will never be untangled, feel that Srta. María de los Ángeles sculpted a piece of their lives, and now, it is reflected in the way our children are taking. Respect, personality or effort are part of the values that our 'Señorita' engraved within me, and that I have never sufficiently thanked for. Therefore, since I learned of her death, I thought it was my obligation to expose in an open forum, that her memory still lives in us. Rest in Peace".
