The Zonzamas Wood Store's male youth team was proclaimed this Sunday champion of the Canary Islands after winning in an exciting final against Moya Tilover by 27-25. The match, played in Los Realejos, was marked by equality in the first half and great game management by the Lanzarote team in the second.
Zonzamas knew how to manage the times and maintain concentration, reaching an advantage of up to five goals in the decisive stretch of the match. The effectiveness in front of the goal and the tactical order were key to securing the regional title.
This triumph crowns an impeccable season for the team, which has remained undefeated since the beginning. First they rose as champions of Lanzarote without knowing defeat, and later they repeated the feat in the previous phase of the Canary Islands Championship, leading their group with a full of victories.
At the end of the match, the president of the club, Juan José Rivera, wanted to congratulate the players, coaching staff and families for the effort and dedication shown throughout the season. “What these children have achieved is extraordinary. Not only have they won a championship, they have demonstrated commitment, companionship and a maturity on the court that is exciting. I congratulate each player, the coaching staff, their families and all our fans, who have been the engine that has driven this dream,” he said.
The day culminated with an emotional reception at the Lanzarote airport, where family members, fans and the club's senior women's team – recently promoted to the Guerreras Iberdrola League, the highest category of national handball – welcomed the young champions with applause and cheers. Zonzamas Wood Store thus closes a historic season that confirms the excellent health of the 'batatero' club's youth system and the promising future of handball on the island.
