The Gran Canaria athlete and world bodyboarding champion, Armide Soliveres, is visiting Lanzarote these days to carry out a project with the Canarian clothing brand OZEANO. Specifically, Soliveres will have a clothing line with his name that will be released soon.
The young man, 22 years old and a native of Gáldar, was the first Spaniard to be proclaimed number one in the world in this sport in 2024. In addition to dedicating himself to bodyboarding, the Canarian is also finishing his Nursing degree.
It is not the first time that Soliveres has enjoyed Lanzarote, as he has been on vacation on other occasions and practicing bodyboarding. He has also been in the Lanzarote Quemao Class championship and has surfed in different areas of the island. "La Santa and El Quemao are the two best peaks in Lanzarote, where I have the best time," he says.
Regarding the moment of being proclaimed world bodyboarding champion, the athlete says that "it was something incredible and being with family and friends in Gáldar was something wonderful, it is not an opportunity that is presented to everyone and I enjoyed it like a child."
His training routine was combined until recently with Nursing practices, so he trained the little free time he had left in the day. "Now that I'm done, I try to do functional exercises almost every day to keep my body agile and active, and surf for at least two hours," explains the athlete.
"You have to spend a lot of time in the sea because each wave is different, so each time you have to understand more how the waves work because that is what is complicated in our sport. On a skate track you know that the ramp will always be the same," he continues.
Control in this type of sport is fundamental to try to avoid as much as possible the possible falls and accidents that may occur. "I have had some accidents such as hitting the stones hard and the worst I think was two years ago on Agujero beach because I hit the buggy and it gave me whiplash that caused me a bit of memory loss," recalls the young man.
Being almost a nurse, Armide Soliveres' goal is to dedicate himself to sports and nursing. "I still have to move well and know how I'm going to organize it with the wave seasons and the championships but I think that will be the best way to be able to combine it," he concludes.
