FC Puerto del Carmen hosted CF Unión Viera on Saturday afternoon, one of the great candidates to achieve promotion in the Women's First National League. The Tiñoseras, especially in the first half, were able to put the Gran Canaria team in trouble and even went to halftime with a tie on the scoreboard. Unión Viera stepped on the accelerator in the second half to take the three points that were at stake.
CF Unión Viera barely took five minutes to take the lead, doing so practically on their first arrival in the opponent's area. Indira received a ball inside the area, and with a mid-height shot, beat goalkeeper Naza. The local defense was not good in this action, allowing the opponent to receive with great ease.
FC Puerto del Carmen recovered from the cold shower of conceding a goal so early. The first dangerous action of the Tiñoseras came in the 7th minute, when Eva Sánchez was left alone against goalkeeper Yanira and could not overcome her save. Just four minutes later, a shot from Yanet from inside the area ended up crashing into the crossbar of the goal.
The forces on the field were evened out as the minutes passed. Unión Viera could have taken the lead, after Irene won the back of the defense, her shot going over the crossbar. And at the edge of halftime, Nieves was brought down inside the area, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot. Georgia was in charge of executing the penalty and establishing the tie with which they reached halftime.
CF Unión Viera was not willing to register a surprise on Saturday afternoon, imprinting more intensity to their game and their coach making two changes at the beginning of the period. The Gran Canaria team barely took six minutes to get back in front on the scoreboard, with Manuela beating Naza with a crossed shot.
Ten minutes later, Georgia brought down Irene inside the area after entering from the left side. Patri was in charge of executing the penalty, beating Naza despite the local goalkeeper touching the ball before it went between the three posts. And the sentence would come in the 76th minute, with Manuela, former player of Puerto del Carmen, scoring the fourth goal for her team after receiving a ball between the lines to stand alone inside the area.
Unión Viera closed the scoring with four minutes remaining in the match. Leiva entered from the right wing and put in a cross for Indira to beat Naza.
Defeat by 1 to 5 of FC Puerto del Carmen against Unión Viera, a result that leaves the Lanzarote team in eleventh place in the standings and with only two points above the relegation zone. Precisely next Saturday they visit CFS La Garita, a team that currently occupies the only relegation place in the Women's First National League.
