UD Lanzarote lost by the minimum on their visit on Sunday morning to UD San Fernando, in a match that was marked by equality and that was decided on the side of those from the south of Gran Canaria in a very controversial action. Gonzalo Di Renzo saw the second yellow card in the 75th minute and in that action, San Fernando's goal would arrive through Juan Rodríguez.
UD San Fernando subjected UD Lanzarote in the first minutes of the match. As soon as the match started, Adrián Hernández sent a shot to the crossbar, and just a minute later, the referee signaled a penalty for a handball inside the area. Adrián Hernández himself took the penalty, but he was met with Alejandro's feline intervention under the posts to stop the shot.
The first rojillo approach occurred in the 13th minute, with an entry by Ismael down the wing and the cross was headed by Gonzalo wide of the three posts. And a minute later, San Fernando was able to open the scoring with a shot from Héctor Ortega at the far post, with Alejandro stopping it under the posts.
The fight was intense in the width of the field, a script that was maintained well into the second half. A cross-shot from Gonzalo Di Renzo from the left put goalkeeper Fermín in trouble, putting his hand in to send the ball to a corner.
The match changed radically with fifteen minutes remaining for the end of the match. Gonzalo Di Renzo saw the second yellow card in an action in the center of the field, when the rojillo forward was trying to control a ball with his back to goal. The San Fernando defender collided with the Argentine and the referee rigorously showed him the second yellow card.
In that action came the only goal of the match. Yeremi Valerón was in charge of hanging the ball into the area defended by UD Lanzarote, the ball was rejected and Juan Rodríguez hooked it to send it into the back of the net of the goal defended by Alejandro.
The goal upset UD Lanzarote's plans, running out of ideas in the minutes remaining until the end of the match and taking risks in defense to go in search of the equalizing goal. An equalizer that would not arrive, concluding the match with a 1-0 score.
UD Lanzarote continues to occupy the fifth place in the standings with 28 points, although now with only one point of advantage over UD Las Palmas Atlético and CD Tenerife “B”. Precisely the blanquiazul subsidiary will be their next rival, a match that will be played on Sunday, January 29 at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote.
