UD Lanzarote has dismissed Adolfo Pérez as coach of UD Lanzarote. The decision was communicated to the coach by the president Victoriano Elvira and other club directors, in an extensive meeting after the training session on Tuesday morning. The news, [anticipated by this medium at mid-morning->6123], was officially confirmed by the red-and-white entity shortly before 3:00 p.m.
The latest sporting results, with four consecutive defeats, have been the final trigger for this decision taken by the club's board.
This Monday, the directors of Lanzarote held a meeting until after ten o'clock at night, in which the central theme was whether or not to continue maintaining Pérez as coach. After that meeting, the club's president himself, Victoriano Elvira, denied that a definitive decision had been made, but the truth is that conversations had already begun with another coach.
In fact, everything points to the fact that they did not want to make the decision official until they had advanced in an agreement with who could be the new coach of Lanzarote. A candidate to replace Adolfo Pérez who already has a name, and who could be the one who was already the red-and-white coach in the 80s, Álvaro Pérez. Currently without a club, in recent years Pérez has been coach of teams such as Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, Hércules and Ceuta. In the past season and so far this season he did not coach any team, although he remained linked to the football field at all times.
Álvaro Pérez, born in Gran Canaria, confirmed to La Voz at three o'clock on Tuesday afternoon that he received a call "from a director" of UD Lanzarote offering him the position of coach, and that "on the last flight on Tuesday or Wednesday morning" he will travel to the island from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to try to close an agreement with the club.
The offer made by Lanzarote is for the remainder of this season and the following. Last Sunday, Álvaro Pérez was present at the match that Lanzarote lost in their visit to UD Las Palmas.
For the dismissal of Adolfo Pérez, one of the main obstacles has been the economic one, since he had made it clear that he will demand that he be paid what remains of the season and even the following, since he assures that his contract was valid until June 2007. However, the president of the club informed this medium that Adolfo Pérez's contract is until the end of this season and with an automatic renewal clause for the following "only in the event that the team qualifies in the current League to play the Copa del Rey", according to Victoriano Elvira.
The latest sporting results and the discomfort of the players themselves, who had already expressed their discontent with the coach to the club's board, have ended up tipping the balance.
