Unión Deportiva Fuerteventura managed to beat CD Lugo (0-1) on the last league matchday, a sporting feat that ends up placing them in the promotion playoffs to the Second Division. Finally, the team from Majorera will be accompanied in their fight to be promoted by the champion Rayo Vallecano, Pontevedra and Deportivo B; the latter being a reserve team that was leading for a large part of the season and, despite the slump in recent weeks, managed to get in.
Regarding relegation, the last league matchday in Group I saved Villa de Santa Brígida, who will not be directly relegated but will have to play in the promotion playoffs. The team from Gran Canaria won away against the relegated San Isidro (1-2), thus avoiding accompanying the team from Tenerife to the hell of the Third Division along with CD Ourense, Fuenlabrada and San Sebastián de los Reyes.
Ponferradina, Huesca, Zamora and Baracaldo in group II; Gerona. Alicante, Gava and Benidorm in group III; and Écija, Linares, Ceuta and Mérida in group IV, are the teams from the bronze division that will fight alongside the team from Majorera and company from group I to obtain the four vacancies left by Alavés, Granada 74 CF, Albacete and Ejido, who were relegated.
UD Lanzarote finishes 13th, with 50 points
For its part, UD Lanzarote finished the season with an away defeat against Univeridad de Las Palmas (2-0), who were playing for everything and who, despite the victory, could not get among the top four. The team from Lanzarote was unlucky with the early injury of goalkeeper Alberto, who had to be replaced at the first opportunity.
It was a match with a lot of tension and few scoring chances. The first half ended with a penalty goal from "Uni", a goal that ended up undermining the few stimulations that the team from Lanzarote had in the match.
Paco Gutiérrez, the "rojillo" coach, declared this afternoon on the entity's official website: "This match has been a faithful reflection of everything that has happened to us in the League." The coach from Madrid also said: "It has been a very long season, but I think we have covered our great objectives. There have been moments of good football and, above all, we have guaranteed the presence of Unión Deportiva Lanzarote for another year in the Second Division B.", he concluded.
At the end of the season, UD Lanzarote occupies 13th place in the general classification, having added 50 points.
