The capital of the island of Lanzarote once again became the epicenter of handball during the weekend, with the celebration of the XLVII 24-Hour Handball Tournament “Ciudad de Arrecife”. A tournament that brought together 69 teams from all categories throughout Saturday and Sunday, and which had as a novelty the celebration of a grass handball tournament in which the players of the Benjamin and Alevín categories participated. "Posa-Mary" and "Piña Colada" were the absolute winners of the senior category.
At 09.30 on Saturday, the forty-seventh edition of the 24-Hour Handball Tournament "Ciudad de Arrecife" officially started. The competition was concentrated in the facilities of the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe, with two courts for the prebenjamín category in the pavilion and three courts on the grass of the football field for the Alevín and Benjamin categories.
The little ones enjoyed a morning full of handball, in which all the teams on the island that have lower categories participated, in addition to the presence of Ciudad de Puerto from Fuerteventura. The morning ended with the delivery of diplomas that each of the participants in the tournament received.
At noon on Saturday, the matches of the rest of the categories began, with the night and early morning of Sunday reserved for the youth and senior categories. Throughout Sunday morning all the finals were played, with "Posa-Mary" winning in the men's category and "Piña Colada" in the women's category, after defeating Ciudad de Puerto and “Una más y nos vamos” in the final, respectively.
The organization of the XLVII 24-Hour Handball Tournament awarded the best goalkeepers and players of the competition. The award for best players went to Manuel Carmona and Famara Pérez, and the award for best goalkeepers were given to Hugo Tavío and Sonia Cañada. In addition, Ciudad de Puerto received the award for their work in favor of handball, and CB San José Obrero wanted to reward the work and dedication of Nabila de Ganzo with the club, being at this time one of those responsible for the base of the group from the Titerroy neighborhood.
