The new Formula 1 World Champion, Jenson Button, has spent a few days on the island of Lanzarote, training and resting with his family. The British driver of the Brawn GP team chose the facilities of Club La Santa Sport to start his preparation for the 2010 season.

Button took advantage of his days on the Island of Volcanoes to begin the demanding physical preparation required for a profession like his. The young driver has chosen Lanzarote "for its excellent climate and its conditions for sports", as well as for being "a destination that I love" and that he has been visiting regularly since 2001.

Running, cycling, triathlon and bodyboarding

Jenson Button worked at the Club La Santa facilities with the help and supervision of his personal trainer, Mike Collier. The athlete mainly used the gym and the Olympic pool, but also enjoyed road cycling, running around La Santa, a mini triathlon organized by the Club, and bodyboarding sessions in La Santa and Famara.

The brand new world champion, who has been visiting the island for 9 years, sometimes up to three times a year, has seen how the sports club has placed his image in the "Hall of Fame" of its Sports Café, along with other athletes such as Frank Bruno, Linford Christie and Colin Jackson.

Tribute from the Tourism Board

The Tourism Board of the Cabildo of Lanzarote took the opportunity to honor the current champion of the Brawn GP team, and thus thank him for his loyalty to the island of Lanzarote and his contribution to the image of the island abroad as an ideal destination for sports. The councilor, Luis Arráez, and the managing director, Héctor Fernández, presented him with a book and other promotional details of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in an event held at La Santa Sport.

"The presence on the island of champions of the stature of Jenson Button," said the councilor, "only confirms the unbeatable characteristics of the island, and that we are working on the right track."
