Although the organizers have already set a date for a new edition of the Isla de Los Volcanes Rally, the Council has not yet resolved the file to authorize this test, which had to be canceled last April due to lack of permits, and which has been rescheduled for the first days of December.

"We have been working for several months and we hope everything works out", says the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Alfredo Mendoza, who stresses that the organizers have held several meetings with the Island Corporation and the Environment area, and possible restrictions are being considered, such as prohibiting the presence of the public in some areas.

"We are looking at the layouts, how the public may be affected, how the impact of vehicles on dirt roads may be affected and adapting to what they allow us and can authorize. In those sections where there is doubt, we are considering making sections without an audience," the counselor has advanced.

"We cannot control the influx of public in certain areas, but where access to the public can be limited, it will be done," he said. However, he stressed that there will be "authorized" areas in the "most attractive" points, "where there may be a curve or an accumulation of people due to the ease of parking."

"Save the test"

"The question is to save a test that I think is important for the world of motoring in Lanzarote," said Mendonza, who hopes that "this week" the permits can be ready, "for the tranquility of the participants and runners."

In addition to the presence of the public, which is one of the things that environmentalists denounce, the layout, which crosses sensitive areas for protected birds, has also been studied.

Until November 3, according to a response received by the environmental association Viento del Nordeste del Cabildo, that layout was still undefined. "The file is in process, so the final routes through which it will be carried out are unknown, since they are subject to variations in the course of the file", the area of Classified Activities pointed out in a written response to this group 10 days ago.
