The Tías Municipal Football Stadium will host the 1st Isla de Lanzarote Solidarity Meeting next Wednesday, December 21, which will serve both to help the families of the island who are going through a difficult time, and to pay tribute to the sporting career of the former referee from Tenerife, Manuel Ángel Pérez Lima. According to the organizers, "one of the best referees that the Canary Islands has produced and who on numerous occasions chose Lanzarote to prepare physically and mentally before the start of the season".
Organized by a group of friends from the refereeing community, the event will begin at 8:45 p.m. and will include 40-minute matches, with the participation of Unión Deportiva Lanzarote, a selection of Lanzarote players with representation from all the clubs on the island and a team called "Los Amigos de Lima", made up of active and retired players, politicians, athletes from other specialties, referees, journalists and celebrities from the world of entertainment.
Previously, the former international referee, with more than 250 matches refereed to his credit, will be presented with a plaque in recognition of "his brilliant refereeing career", which has included the achievement of two Guruceta trophies for the best referee in the Second Division, and a whistle with his sanctioning cards, which he will use in the direction of the friendly matches of the night.
The entrance to this 1st Isla de Lanzarote Solidarity Meeting, which is born with the vocation of lasting over time, will be totally free for children, while adults will be required to make an individual donation (non-perishable food, clothing, toiletries or toys), which will later be distributed among the social affairs departments of the public institutions of Lanzarote and the shelters that various NGOs have on the island.
The event, which has the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the seven island councils and numerous other companies and groups, will also include several musical performances such as a batucada and a parranda, as well as exhibitions of conejero stick, shepherd's jump, Canarian wrestling and Latin salsa dancing. The organization encourages both football fans and those who are not to come to the Tías Municipal Stadium on the night of Wednesday, December 21, which will open its doors at 7:30 p.m., to contribute to this good cause.
