The Island Department of Sports of the Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Tuesday the launch of NeuroLanza 2025, an innovative project that consists of a series of neurolimpiadas with a unique playful-sports approach for the elderly of the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

At the presentation of the neuro-olympics, which will be held on November 29 and 30 at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote, were present the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón; and the organizers of the neuro-olympics, Besay Rodríguez and Óscar Morales; in addition to representatives from the municipalities of Tías and Arrecife, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña.

The competition is specifically aimed at the elderly, with teams made up of athletes over 60 years of age who have attended training sessions in the participating municipalities. In this case, the organization has implemented four modalities within these neuro-olympics: Relays, Canary Hoop, Words and Numbers, and Letter Race.

NeuroLanza 2025

“The main peculiarity of NeuroLanza 2025 lies in the design of the tests, which are of a physical-cognitive nature, seeking the integral stimulation of the participants,” assured the councilor himself, who thanked the organizers, the workers of the Insular Sports Service, and the participating city councils “for their close collaboration in making these neuro-olympics a reality.”

In this case, the competition is by teams and will be developed in a Single Elimination format, where the winners advance and the losers are eliminated until "The Competition Champion" is proclaimed.

"These NeuroLanza 2025 are much more than a simple competition; they are a clear example of how sport can be a fundamental tool for promoting active and healthy aging. By combining physical tests with cognitive challenges, we not only stimulate the bodies of our over-60s, but also their minds," stated Monzón.

"The great reception we've had, with seven teams and a total of 120 participants from Arrecife, Teguise, and Tías, demonstrates the enthusiasm of our seniors to stay active and socially integrated through recreational and sports initiatives like these. It's a resounding success for the Insular Sports Service and for the island as a whole," concluded the councilor
