The facilities of the Marina Lanzarote Shopping Center hosted last Friday the first of the eight tournaments of the I Blitz Circuit of Lanzarote with the participation of 30 chess players of all ages.
In the absolute category, the undisputed winner was Rubén Martín Hernández, the second classified was José María Salazar and the third prize was taken by the youth Manuel Navío. To take the fourth prize, MF Julián Morales was forced to play three tiebreaker games with Marcelino Ramos.
In the Sub 1800 category, the winner was José Juan Molina, while the second place was for Jorge Rey. In Sub 1400, the prize went to the young Jan Thomas Nordgreen.
Among the five participating women, the best was Helena Joana Li, current runner-up of the Canary Islands Sub 10. Among the veterans, the first prize was for Antonio Martín Fernández and the second for Miguel Morales.
Youth category, sub 12, sub 10 and sub 8
In the youth category, Ángela Martínez was the winner. For his part, in Sub 16. the winner was Randolph González.
Laura Chara, from the Tinajo Chess School, was the best in Sub 12, where the second place was for Jesús David Castillo. In Sub 10. the winner was Oscar Martín. from the School of the Society La Democracia.
Finally, in Sub 8, the winner was Eiden Gellert, from the Cacharros Chess School. In this category, the participation of the children of the Tinajo Chess School, directed by Professor Tony González, stood out.
To program and technically direct this event, the Insular Delegation of Chess of Lanzarote had the collaboration of the international chess referee, Pablo Arranz Martín.
Next tournament
This I Blitz Circuit of Lanzarote will hold its second tournament next Saturday, October 26, at 11 am, at the Sands Beach Resort facilities in Costa Teguise. The third tournament will be on Saturday, November 16 in Tinajo and the fourth on Sunday, November 24 in the Villa de Teguise.
Simultaneous in the Democratic Society
On the other hand, the teacher Julián Morales gave three tables in the simultaneous that he granted on Saturday morning in the Sociedad La Democracia.
The insular champion Sub 12, Jan Thomas Nordgreen, the monitor Tony González and the veteran Tomás Armas Rodríguez managed to force tables in their respective games of the simultaneous that the FIDE master Julián Morales offered on the occasion of the anniversary of the inauguration of the facilities of the Sociedad La Democracia.
