Rayco Tabares with the Hotel Princesa Yaiza won the Casino Club Náutico Arrecife Trophy

The classification was more open than ever, with several boats fighting to be among the first. The night before, a buffet was offered to the sailors in the halls of the organizing Club, taking advantage of the evening to comment on what happened on the first day in a good nautical atmosphere.

Rayco Tabares with Hotel Princesa Yaiza, Leonardo Armas skippering Centro Óptica Rade and Gustavo del Castillo with J.J. Palmensis, led the general classification at the start of Sunday's day. The wind, which remained constant between 14 and 16 knots of speed and NE direction, together with the flat sea, allowed the 32 participating boats to offer a beautiful spectacle that was followed from land by numerous fans.

The first regatta made things even tighter in the classification when Casto Martínez with Txo scored the victory, which meant, for the moment, having 4 winners for four races. In the finish line they were followed by Puerto Calero Hesperia of Gonzalo Morales, an authentic promise of island sailing that is making its way among the fleet leaders. The third place was for El Fandango under the command of Alfredo González who remained at his good level. The provisional leader Rayco Tabares with Hotel Princesa Yaiza "punctured" with a seventh place that he could finally discard.

In the second of the day, fifth of the trophy, the start had to be repeated due to a general call caused by a wind role from 355º to 020º which would definitely be the upwind course. As if the excitement was not enough for the sailing lovers who were able to enjoy themselves during the weekend, Gonzalo Morales placed Puerto Calero Hesperia at the head of the fleet, improving his second place in the previous race. Leonardo Armas made his best place by placing second in the finish line with Centro Óptica Rade, which made him arrive with options to the final triumph with one race to go. The third place was for El Fandango of Alfredo González, but a disqualified in the first race did not allow him to discount the eighth of the third regatta.

Several boats arrived at the last regatta with options for the final triumph in the Casino Club Náutico de Arrecife Trophy, but the good performance of Rayco Tabares' Hotel Princesa Yaiza in the downwind that led to the finish line, allowed him to overtake Casto Martínez's Txo, who was leader, and Leonardo Armas' Centro Óptica Rade, who was second. Rayco achieved his second victory, with Hotel Princesa Yaiza being the only boat that repeated triumph in the six races held.

In the end, the general classification was headed by Rayco Tabares with Hotel Princesa Yaiza who scored 12 points after discounting the seventh place in the fourth race. The second place was for Leonardo Armas with Centro Óptica Rade who accumulated 16 points, while third was Casto Martínez with Txo and a total of 17 points.

The J80s offered an image unknown until now on the capital's coastline, filling it with excitement and color during two days of fierce competition. The organization by the C.C.N.A. was at a great height, so the crews were very satisfied with it.

The awards ceremony will be held next Friday, May 19, at 8:30 p.m. at the Casino Club Náutico de Arrecife. The awards ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Fajardo Feo.
