CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved a new victory this Saturday at the Nuevo Polideportivo Municipal de Pola de Siero against Siero Deportivo Balonmano (28-34) in a match corresponding to the twenty-first day of Group A of the Women's Silver Honor Division, which means, with five days to go, the league title and a place in the promotion phase.
The match ended up being very similar to the first leg. From the first minute, the visitors took the lead on the scoreboard, a difference that would remain around three goals until halftime (14-18, min. 30).
Far from improving in the restart, the locals saw how the Tías team came out strong from the locker room to widen the gap on the scoreboard (16-22, min. 35), with numbers in favor of Puerto del Carmen that would not change until the end of the match.
For the Tías coach, Juanmi Pérez, "we arrived at the match against Siero with a clear idea, which was to get the point or the victory that would give us the title of champion of this group, and the truth is that we controlled the match at all times, without playing a great match we were always ahead by between two and five goals and we knew how to maintain it until the end. The important thing is that we are now mathematically champions and for this group, the work done throughout the season is to congratulate them because I think we are fair winners, we have played good handball and that is reflected in the standings in the advantage we have with the second-placed team."
The two top scorers in the league arrived at the match and showed the reason why they are occupying the top positions among the league's machine guns. The local scorer, Julia Baizán, scored 11 goals while the biggest offensive threat from Tías, Fernanda Insfran, added another 8 goals to her notebook. Nothing has changed in the list of scorers with five days to go. Baizán remains the top scorer with 180 goals in 21 matches and an average of 8.57. On the other hand, the Paraguayan international from Puerto del Carmen has scored 168 goals with
two fewer matches, 19, giving the best scoring average in the group with 8.84 goals per match.
The victory leaves the Tías team unmovable at the top of the group with 40 points, with 20 victories and one defeat in their locker and a positive goal difference of 179 goals. In short, with five days to go, league champions and with a passport to the promotion phase.
In the twenty-second league match, on Saturday, March 11, at 6:00 p.m., at the Tías Municipal Pavilion, Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will receive a visit from Camargo 74 Propenor Repsol, a team that is tenth in the standings with 18 points and is coming off a home win (32-29) against the other Canary Island team in the group, Rocasa Gran Canaria.
