The Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen was defeated this Saturday at the Lasesarre Sports Center in Baracaldo against Balonmano Zuazo Femenino (30-24) in a match corresponding to the fifth round of the Women's División de Honor Oro.Third consecutive defeat for the Tiñoseras in a match where they were always behind on the scoreboard and, although they had phases in which they came close, the locals knew how to maintain the distance and finally achieve victory.
The first ten minutes remained even on the court (5-4), the exact moment when the locals stepped on the gas and reached a distance of four or five goals that they would not relinquish until the end of the match. Zuazo continued to dominate and was five up (18-13) at halftime. In the second half, the tactical battle between the two teams intensified. Sofía Ballada and Eider Hernández were fundamental in Zuazo managing the aurinegra pressure in critical moments, which allowed them to maintain the distance on the scoreboard and end up taking the final victory.
For the Tiñosa coach, Jesús Casanova, it was “a match initially marked by a couple of players who were somewhat injured, Mazaira and Dely; in the end, Dely played in spurts, and Mazaira didn’t play at all. Aside from that, a typical match like the ones we’ve been playing away from home, with many ups and downs. They got ahead by six or seven goals, we managed to cut the lead, and then we had quite a few shooting and concentration errors again, and that, against a rival of this level, gives them the chance to pull away on the scoreboard again. This happened to us two or three times; we managed to get within two goals well into the second half, but, once again, there were inaccuracies, a mistake, a penalty, a clear six-meter shot, and that conditioned the final result. We’re left with a bittersweet feeling because, on the one hand, we showed that when we play at our level, we can face anyone, but it’s also true that we have many gaps in our game that we have to try to minimize, because if not, it will be difficult to win matches. That is the work we have pending now in these four matches that are coming up after this start to the season. Let's see what we are capable of.”
With this result, Puerto del Carmen is in thirteenth position, second to last, with two points and a balance of one victory and four defeats. Zuazo, meanwhile, is in the lead, tied on points with Oviedo, Boadilla, and Pereda.
Dely Leiva, from La Tiñosa, hobbling, became the top scorer of the match and for Puerto with seven goals. In the local squad, Sofía Ballada was the biggest offensive threat with six goals.
Jesús Casanova's squad will host Grupo USA Handbol Mislata next Saturday, November 8, at 6:00 p.m. in the Tías Municipal Sports Hall. This team won at home against Carballal this week (30-29) and is eleventh in the standings with three points after one victory, one draw, and three losses.
