The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands informs that educational centers must remain closed and change teaching activity to telematics mode tomorrow Thursday, March 19, on all islands of the western province —Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro— and the island of La Graciosa, in this case due to adverse coastal phenomena, to which the island of Gran Canaria is added in the afternoon and night; maintaining the telematics mode throughout the day on Friday, March 20, across the entire archipelago.
This decision is adopted following the recommendation and preventive measures decreed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, through the General Directorate of Emergencies and Civil Protection to avoid displacements that may put the population at risk, and in particular the educational community, during the confluence of meteorological factors that will affect our archipelago in the coming days.
Teaching activity will be carried out remotely whenever technical conditions allow it. In those courses where the development of this modality is not possible, the activity will be suspended. Along these lines, in order to guarantee the continuity of teaching activity, the Ministry of Education has made tools available to schools for the development of online classes, for which educational centers have recently received instructions.
From the Ministry of Education, the management teams of educational centers are reminded of the advisability of adopting basic preventive measures such as checking the gutters and water drainage routes, keeping them free of elements that could obstruct them, and checking elements susceptible to being affected by the wind.
Likewise, the entire educational community is advised to remain attentive to updates that are issued through the official channels of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as to the instructions of the General Directorate of Emergencies and Civil Protection.
